A charming Georgian linen press constructed from rich, beautifully grained mahogany. The piece features fine marquetry and intricate inlay work and is offered in very good condition.
It comes in 2 pieces, the upper section consists of two raised panelled doors, each adorned with stunning inlaid motifs, including classical urns, scrolling foliage, and neoclassical figures. These doors open to reveal a spacious interior fitted with sliding shelves, originally designed for the organized storage of linens but equally versatile for contemporary use. These slides are easily removed and could be replaced with a hanging rail if preferred.
The base section comprises two short drawers above three graduated long drawers, all adorned with brass oval plate handles and edged with delicate string inlay. The drawers are exceptionally well-constructed with solid oak dovetailed joints and cockbeaded fronts.
Additional details include a dentil-moulded cornice that crowns the piece, and bracket feet that provide stability and elevate the cabinet gracefully. The rich patina of the mahogany enhances its warm, inviting appearance, reflecting both age and the superior quality of materials used.
