A striking bleached and heavily carved oak chest on stand, dating to circa 1760. The upper chest features six drawers with elaborate scrolling, foliate and floral carving throughout, complemented by brass handles and escutcheons. The carved decoration continues onto the lower stand, which has another three drawers and is raised on elegant shaped legs with further carved detail. The piece has been given a distinctive raw, bleached/driftwood-style finish, highlighting the character and depth of the carved oak. The carving appears to be a later decorative addition, giving this substantial antique an individual and highly decorative character. A wonderful statement piece with considerable presence, ideal for a country-house or modern interior.
